Mom and pups are doing fine. This is a fairly uniform litter with all the pups about the same size. As with all JRT litters though the markings vary and the coat type will not be known for a few weeks.
The Gage and Spanky pups were born June 4, 2012. She had 5 pups, 4 boys and 1 girl. Gage is co-owned with Katie Chapman and as part of the agreement this litter will carry the JRRanch name and we will get all the pups shortly after weaning and they will finish their development here.

The first 2 pictures are the female followed by 2 pictures of each male.
Then 4 pictures of Gage and pups to see their gain in size from birth. They usually double their weight in the first week.
Only 6 days old here and at this stage all they do is eat and sleep. They belly crawl to Mom to find their meal. From the size of them it looks like they haven't missed any meals.
Their pink noses are just beginning to turn black at this stage.
Thanks Katie, you have done a great job whelping these pups.

Katie's little girl is doing a great job of socializing the pups. Excellent pictures of the baby discovering the puppies and the puppies feeling human contact. Even Gage looks happy with this.
The puppies are progressing well and getting more mobile with their belly crawling. Next week their eyes should be opening and then they will begin to stand and wobbly walk about.
June 20, 2012
The pups eyes are open and they should be hearing very soon. They will be getting up off their bellies to walk about more. This is a tough chore when they are so well fed. The pups are in the dining room and they get lots of visits from relatives and neighboring kids so they are very much used to people being around and handling them. Gage is very good about all the activity around her pups as well.
The first row of pictures are of the boys. The girl is in the 3 pictures in the middle of the second row.
The next couple of weeks will see rapid development of their walikng skills. They will also begin to play with each other and faux battles will ensue with lots of growling and posturing. They will take turns being the dominant one and learning to get along with each other. This is a very important time in their socialization.
June 30, 2012
The pups are almost 4 weeks old here. The pictures show the 3 males but more are coming.
They will be eating solid food soon and Gage will be spending more time away from the pups as they are gaining independance. They are really begining to stretch their legs now and will be running around at full steam soon.
Mom will probably be eager to wean the pups in the next week or so.
The rest of the pictures are up now. The pups are playing with their aunt Jada. Gage is happy to be away from them for awhile and only stays with them now to feed them. Some moms want to wean early while others like to stay with their pups forever. It makes no difference to the pups as they always find some mischief to get into and most moms like to be away from them when they get rowdy. They are content with their own company at this stage. Most of the socialization comes from siblings and humans now.

The pups celebrating Canada Day with lots of friends big and small.

The Gage pups were picked up today and brought home to JRRanch. Thanks, Katie for doing such a great job whelping this litter..
Nary a peep from them on the 4 hour trip home. They slept in their crates last night from bedtime at 10pm until we got up just after 5am. We immediately whisked them outside to do their business and we didn't have any accidents in their crates.
Tonight we will be splitting them up and each one will be sleeping in their own crate. We may lose some sleep tonight but so far these kids are doing fine with the crate training.
Lots of pictures just to get caught up with this litter.
We still have 2 pups from the Tabatha litter we are running on for a bit so a couple pictures are of them.

The pups have settled in nicely and are into the routine here. They will be in separate crates tonight for the first time. Should be crate trained and mostly house broken by the time they go to their new homes. Very few accidents in the house and they are doing their duty immediately on the lawn.
They love their walks and are really into exploring now. They keep both of us busy herding them and making sure they don't get lost in the fields.
The pups went for another trip this week. We took them to Burlington to have them assessed for show/breeding qualities.
Several breeders brought their pups and there were 14 pups all getting to play and learning to get along. The 3 pictures in the right of the first row is an example of trying to pick the show/breeding male from the Gage litter. Gaye is holding them on her lap first to get an idea of their relative chest size. Then she stacks each one to assess their structure. It was a close call but the boy with the neck marking was chosen.
Most of the pups will be going to their new homes this weekend. They are eating and sleeping in their own crates and are mostly house trained as well.

Only 2 boys left. All the rest have gone to excellent homes and are settling in very well with their new friends. Reports back to us are that they are sleeping through the night and no accidents in the house.
These two boys have longer hair. The benefit of this is that they do not shed as much as the shorter coats. They may need grooming though if you don't like them looking like long haired hippies.
Hope to find good forever homes for these two shortly.
That was fast. ALL PUPS SOLD!!!
The pups have all found great homes and will spread joy to their new families.
