Cecelia had her pups this morning to our surprise. She was a few days early but when she started to nest we took her temperature and sure enough, this was the day. She had the first 3 very quickly and with no fuss. The fourth pup took several hours to get in position but eventually Cecelia presented us with a beautiful grey and white pup. The others are black and white and all weigh in at about 7oz. She had 3 girls and 1 boy. Will try to get some individual shots soon.
The pups are 3 days old now. They are gaining weight steadily and mom is doing a fantastic job. She is very calm and gentle with her pups. The picture of the grey girl is not quite accurate grey. She is a very light grey with no brown tint. The boy is upper right. They all weigh in at 10oz. now but the girl bottom right remains a bit smaller at 9oz..
The pups are a week old now. They are growing steadily. Mom is very calm and laid back with them so I hope they all inherit her temperament. Next week they should have their eyes open and get more mobile.
The pups are 2 weeks old today Mar 10,2005. Their eyes started to open yesterday and in a couple more days they will all have their eyes open. Then they will be very mobile. Right now they are very squirmy and the hand couldn't keep them in place for long. Isn't that a lovely picture of Mrs JRRanch. Next week we will get some pictures of their first foray outside their whelping pen.
The pups are 3 weeks old today and this is their first trip out of their whelping pen. They are doing very well for the first time and some started immediately running around. They get this from their granny who is very athletic. Now the fun starts. They will be taken out to play every day now. In about 2 weeks they should be out of their whelping pen completely and weaned from mom as well. The boy is in the bottom 2 pictures.
The next day (Mar 18/05) we took these group shots. They lasted about 10 minutes today before they missed their whelping pen. They weren't out for a long time but sure had a good time.
The kids are over 4 weeks old now (Mar 26/05). They are gaining confidence with each trip to the kitchen for exercise and they are growing fast. Their first teeth have grown in and they have started a bit if solid food. Some time next week they will be fully weaned from mom. This is a bit early but this litter has done everything ahead of schedule starting with their birth.
The pups are just over 5 weeks here (Apr 2 /05). The are fully weaned from mom and gaining confidence daily. On warm days they go outside to p&p and are doing very well with their training. They will get their first shot at 6 weeks and we will let them stay outside more. Even in the last couple of days with the cold weather they do their business as soon as they are out and then they come right back in for play time in the kitchen.
A couple of days later (Apr 4/05) they show us that the simplest things make the most interesting toys. Here they are searching for carrot snacks in a small box and on top of the new tacky cushion. Another favourite is the empty peanut butter container that they love to push across the floor and make a ton of racket..
The pups are over 6 weeks old now (Apr 10/04). They had their first vaccination yesterday. They are sleeping through the night and doing almost all their p&p outside. We will begin crate training in a couple of days. They get out for long walks 3-4 times a day and several more times for p&p. A tired Jack Russell is a good Jack Russell.
I finally remembered to take my camera on the walk today and they posed nicely for me. They had been outside all morning so they did a lot of sitting. They might also still be a little nackered from their shot yesterday.
We will start crate training by putting 2 together in a crate for the night. When they get used to that we give them each their own crate for the night. Some cry a bit at this point but most of them love the comfort and toys in their own crate. So, by the time they are ready to go to their new homes at 8 weeks they should be mostly house trained and crate trained.
The pups are 7 weeks old today Apr 14/05. They spend almost all day outside now. Most of the time on the deck sunning themselves and several long walks. They are paired up for a little nap in their crates around noon and they don't make a peep they are so tired. We paired them up in their crates to sleep last night and they slept until past 6 without a whimper out of them. Two days of this and then they will be in their crate alone at night to prepare them for their new home.
Their are two beds on the deck but they insist on piling into one bed.
